IMAGE SIGNAL PROCESSING (ISP)
GEO’s Image Signal Processor (ISP) provides all the camera control features in a modern digital video camera. The GEO ISP provides dynamic color and exposure control, advanced adaptive noise reduction and sharpening, and most importantly controls all algorithms to provide not only the best representation of the scene, but also enhancements to ensure that very bright and very dark areas or scenes are processed to display the most information achievable.
One such enhancement in the ISP pipeline is the support of High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing, which is particularly critical in applications such as automotive cameras, surveillance cameras and other applications where scenes that contain dark and very bright areas within the same scene exist, and where being able to identify objects in these extremes is very important.
Geometric processing is a means of mathematically transforming an image in both position space (X, Y) and color space (R, G, B). GEO’s eWARP® technology provides a real-time geometric processing engine that is precise, extremely flexible and ultra-efficient in terms of power and size. The transformations may range from simple scaling to rotation (characterized by theta) to highly non-linear transformations with several parameters.
The applications for this technology range from camera systems utilizing ultra-wide angle lenses, automotive and military head-up display systems, projection systems that are projecting onto curved and other irregular surfaces, and aligning tiled displays used to create ultra large video displays such as those found in stadiums etc. The technology is also perfectly suited to simplify and solve issues of digital calibration and alignment of cameras and projectors that were previously aligned with mechanical methods. This technology has been improved and perfected over four generations of development and is supported by 15 patents.
GEO’s video compression technology evolved from Mobilygen, creators of the world’s first single chip H.264 solution. The key to the technology is the data-driven architecture and multi-threaded processor that provides both flexibility and performance at the lowest power consumption. It gives ASIC performance and cost with the flexibility of a DSP.
In addition, H.264 compression architecture is virtualized and therefore is highly scalable. Today we are running at 1080p60 with possible upgrade path to 4k resolutions. Also due to the virtualized nature, it can generate any number of video streams. The technology is in its 4th generation and is protected with over 60 patents.

Programmable Geometric Processor and ISP
The GW3400 integrates GEO’s patented eWARP® core with an Apical Image Signal Processor (ISP), Tensilica® Xtensa CPU, DDR3 interface, parallel and MIPI interfaces, providing a completely integrated camera system solution.
The GW3400’s fully programmable geometric processing engine provides the flexibility and performance to correct complex lens distortion, enable electronic Pan/Tilt/Zoom, and manipulate viewing perspective in real time with as little as 1/6th frame of latency. The eWARP® technology creates multiple detail views in a single pass resulting in a video stream with multiple virtual camera views. The eWARP® core also provides the capability to digitally align and calibrate cameras.
The GW3400 integrates an Apical ISP that provides High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing, spatial noise
reduction, temporal noise reduction, and advanced 3A algorithms. The HDR technology applies different processing to each pixel of each video frame to pull out hidden detail in shadows and highlights while preserving color, local contrast, and natural appearance. The ISP supports HDR sensors that provide dynamic range of up to 96dB allowing detail in low light as well as high brightness areas of the scene simultaneously.

Programmable Geometric Processor and ISP
The Industrial Camera Processor, GW4300, integrates GEO’s patented Geometric processor eWARP® with an advanced High Dynamic Range (HDR) Image Signal Processor (ISP), On-screen Display engine (OSD), Parallel, MIPI, and NTSC/PAL interfaces. The device incorporates a Tensilica® Xtensa processor along with peripheral and serial device interfaces for complete system integration.
The eWARP® processor is GEO’s fourth-generation version of the unique and highly patented geometric processor. The fully programmable geometric processor provides the flexibility and performance to correct complex lens distortion, enable electronic Pan/Tilt/Zoom, and manipulate viewing perspective in real time with sub-frame time latency. The eWARP® technology can create multiple detail views in a single pass generating a video stream with multiple virtual camera views. The eWARP® core also supports complex digital alignment and camera calibration.
The ISP provides High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing, spatial noise reduction, color processing, sharpening, and advanced 3A algorithms. The HDR technology applies different processing to each pixel of each video frame to pull out hidden detail in shadows and highlights while preserving color, local contrast, and natural appearance. The ISP supports HDR sensors that provide a dynamic range of up to 96dB revealing detail in both high-light and low-light areas of the scene simultaneously.
The On-screen Display (OSD) engine blends up to four layers of graphics with the video. The four layers can be a combination of both static and dynamic overlays. The static overlays enable text and logos while dynamic overlays are used for dynamic parking lines, active text, and animations. The OSD can support either RGB or YUV format.

The GC6500 is a highly integrated, low-power H.264 Codec that supports video encoding up to High Definition (1920 x 1080p60) resolution. The GC6500 features advanced video encoding and processing with HD H.264 encoder and processors such as High Dynamic Range (HDR) Image Signal Processor (ISP), Geometric processor (eWARP®), and Video preprocessors. The device also incorporates an Xtensa LX4 processor and a RISC processor along with a number of peripheral and serial device interfaces for I/O and system control integration.
Combining high-quality video encoding with advanced video processing, the GC6500 is an ideal, cost-effective solution for secured video monitoring and internet video conferencing applications.
Leveraging the chip’s high performance and integration capabilities, the GC6500 delivers superior video and audio quality while significantly reducing cost and power consumption of the system. The advanced video processing blocks coupled with the flexible hardware architecture provide best in class video processing capabilities such as ultra wide angle and fish-eye correction, wide dynamic range video processing, and multi-stream encoding support. The audio processing algorithms such as beam forming, noise suppression, and echo cancellation implemented in the firmware improve signal noise ratio removing the need for external audio processing. The integrated Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) and power circuitry eliminate the need for external components reducing overall system cost.
